Canstruction®
First Annual Bite of Seattle Canstruction® Challenge
Mission: Canstruct a World Without Hunger
Trademarked
by the Society for Design Administration, and working in tandem with the American
Institute of Architects and other members of the design and construction
industry, Canstruction® is making a significant contribution to the
fight against HUNGER.
Canstruction® combines the competitive spirit of a
design/build competition with a unique way to help feed hungry people.
Competing teams, lead by architects and engineers, showcase their talents by
designing giant sculptures made entirely out of canned foods. At the close of
the exhibitions all of the food used in the structures is donated to local food
banks for distribution to pantries, shelters, soup kitchens, elderly
and day care centers.
Canstruction® is a truly unique
community service project developed by the Society for Design Administration
(SDA) to benefit local food banks. The Seattle Chapter of SDA has sponsored the
Seattle Canstruction® for over 15 years with Food Lifeline as the
beneficiary. This year we have teamed with Festivals, Inc. to host the The 1st Annual Comcast Bite of Seattle Canstruction® Challenge at the Bite of
Seattle on July 16-18, 2010. It will be
held in the Fisher Pavilion adjacent to the popular Bite Cooks shows.
The
1st Annual Comcast Bite of Seattle Canstruction®
Challenge will be a lively competition between 5 design teams in
building artistic, giant structures made entirely out of canned food. These Canstructures
will be on display in Fisher Pavilion and judged by professional judges and the
public. Examples of other Canstruction®
can be found at www.canstruction.org;
these fantastic structures will truly amaze you!
Last
year, Canstruction® events were held in 75 cities across the
country that resulted in donations of over 2.2 million pounds of food to help
feed hundreds of thousands of people in need. You, too, can be part of this
charitable and fun event! Come down to Fisher Pavilion and donate a can of food and vote for your favorite Canstructures
with money. Each Canstructure will have a voting box that attendees can place money in. The Canstructure with the most money at the end of
the Bite of Seattle will win the People's Choice Award
