Senior structural engineer with experience in environmental structures to join an employee-owned civil/environmental engineering and consulting firm in its downtown Seattle office. This is a growing firm with great office dynamics and a significant backlog of consulting services contracts for cities and counties in Western Washington.
This position involves structural analysis, design, and detailing of environmental and liquid containing structures, such as wastewater treatment plants, water tanks, pump stations, channel and headworks structures, and piping and equipment supports. Related work typically includes low rise support buildings for generators and support equipment, retaining walls, and miscellaneous structural improvements and retrofits associated with environmental facilities. Work also includes studies, preparation of plans and specifications, and structure cost estimating.
The candidate shall have a minimum of a BSCE, a Washington PE, and not less than twelve years of design experience with a firm or firms that provide municipal consulting services for utilities, wastewater and water treatment, stormwater drainage and/or solid waste projects, including seismic design. Some familiarity with AWWA D100 and ACI 350 required.
A master’s degree and Washington SE license are preferred qualifications. Candidates without an SE license will be expected to take the SE licensing examination within two years of hire. Candidate must be familiar with IBC, ASCE 7, and current concrete, steel, masonry and wood design codes and standards. Familiarity with MSWord and Excel software required. Mathcad desirable. Must have some experience with SAP2000, RISA3D or other major structural modeling software for frame analysis and FEM.
Candidate will work under the supervision of a Washington SE, but will be capable of researching codes, design procedures, and organizing work independently. Candidate must have ability to clearly document calculations and prepare sketches for finished drafting by others. AutoCAD drafting experience not required. Candidate will be expected to provide samples of completed work, including calculations, if interviewed.
Communication skills in English, including written and verbal are very important in this professional downtown office. Physical requirements include the ability to perform occasional field observations at facility and construction sites and the ability to work occasionally on elevated structures.
