Clarification: Your Reputation and the SDA
Previously, I had made a post about how to improve your reputation and standing with the Society for Design Administration (SDA) and the feedback was phenomenal. However, I feel like I either might not have clearly stated what I was trying to get across or some of my readers just missed the point. When I said that your reputation initially had a lot to do with consistent client recommendation, that was not to then suggest that it mattered who your clients actually were. It really doesn’t matter if you did design work for sites like yahoo.com, amazon.com, http://www.homesecurityfamily.com/, or even ebay.com or any other high profile group – what matters is the consistency reported by your clients. Your level of professionalism, how you approached their requests, your level of commitment, your ability to communicate and articulate your thoughts and ideas and, of course, your ability to realize their vision and bring it to the public – these are all what factor into your reputation with the clients and how they talk about you. It doesn’t matter so much WHO you are doing work for but your level of talent and professionalism – it’s pretty much the way it works everywhere, people know you by your legacy and not who you are necessarily associated with.
